現在欧米諸国ではドナー細胞の不足から重度の１型糖尿病患者のみでの臨床がなされておりますが、その臨床成果として80％以上のレシピエントで移植後１年以内にインスリン離脱した，と良好な成績が報告された。しかし長期成績をみてみると，移植後の経過とともにグラフト機能が徐々に低下し，移植後５年インスリン離脱を維持できるのは20％に満たないことが明らかになってきている現状の中で、中国では2型の糖尿病患者にこの治療を試したところ、5年後のインスリン離脱は90%を超える結果を出しました。

Currently in western countries, clinical trials are conducted only for serious conditions of type 1 diabetes patients because of the lack of donor cell. The outcomes of clinical trial are very positive reporting that more than 80% of recipients are no longer need of administration of insulin. However, a long term outcome shows that there are only 20% of the recipients who can maintain their health without insulin more than 5 years because graft function deteriorates as time goes by after operation. Under this circumstances, the same clinical trials are applied for type 2 diabetes patients in China and and received a successful result of more than 90% of recipients who can live without insulin 5 years later.
