先日、テレビで南イタリアのナポリにある世界遺産ポンペイが放送されていました。

私も数年前にローマから日帰りでポンペイに行ったことがあります。
ナポリからローカル線でポンペイに向かいましたが、南イタリアの5月はとても暑く、その日は日差しがとても強かったのを覚えています。

ポンペイはヴェスヴィオ山の大噴火により一夜にして火山灰に覆いつくされた街として有名です。
遺跡となっても美しい街で、200年以上前の人々の生活が垣間見えました。
神殿、裁判者や集会所、野外劇場や円形闘技場まであります。

The other day, the world heritage Pompeii in Naples, southern Italy was being broadcasted on TV.

Few years ago, I have paid a day trip to Pompeii from Rome.
I took a local train from Naples to Pompeii, and I remember the month of May in southern Italy was very hot and the sun was very strong that day.

Pompeii is a famous city which was once covered with volcanic ash overnight by the great eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
The city is yet beautiful even after it has become a ruin, and I was able to take a glimpse of the lives of people over 2 thouthand years ago. The site even includes temples, courts , meetinghouses, open air theaters and amphitheaters.
