雑誌の誌面に登場はするが、あくまで素人。素人なので、事務所には所属していない。一般の素人女性と同じ立場の女性が、おしゃれをして雑誌に出るので、専属モデルより、一般女性にとって親近感がわく存在。
そんな一般女性にとってのファッションリーダーである。
テレビや雑誌の表紙を飾るような、読者モデル出身者は、雑誌の読み手との距離が近い為、(元々は読者の為)一般的なモデルとは別の｢親近感｣からくる為、同年代の女性からの支持を集めやすい。
Even though someone appears on a magazine page, that person is forever an amateur. They don't work with any office because they're amateurs. Since women dress like your typical amateur appears in magazines there is a sense of closeness for the average woman you don't get with a contracted model.
They're fashion leaders for the average woman.
When a former reader models on the television or front page of a magazine there is a sense of closeness with the audience and (since the model was once a reader herself) it tends to be easy to garner support from women of the same age group.
