When the meeting was finished, he took an extra five minutes to review every task we had discussed and the amount he was agreeing to pay, and he gave me an exact date to have the work completed. I then had an easy job in writing up an agreement. Every detail-the job, the price, and the deadline-was clearly laid out. No other person had been that explicit with me before. It worked so well that I have tried to incorporate this technique in my management.
Here's the approach
Suppose you tell an employee to do some research and turn in a report about the challenges to be faced over the next five years.
