We have great examples of how motivation can work in both team and individual areas when we look at college football. Numerous teams have a system in place that acknowledges both team success and individual achievement. In most years, teams like Ohio State, Michigan, and Florida State are contenders for bowl games and national championships. The goal of team success is to be invited to a bowl and possibly win a national championship. But these teams offer recognition to individuals who make significant contributions to the team goal by awarding stickers for their helmets.

大学のフットボールを観ていると、モチベーションがいかにして個人とチームの双方に影響を与ることができるかがよくわかる。多くのチームがチームの成績と個人の功績の両方を賞賛する仕組みを取り入れている。オハイオ州立大学やミシガン大学、フロリダ州立大学らは毎年のように大会や全国選手権で優勝候補として名を連ねている。チームとしての彼らの目標とは大会に招待され、さらに言えば全国選手権で優勝することだろう。しかしこれらのチームではチーム目標の達成に向けて多大なる功績を残した個人プレイヤーに対し、彼のヘルメットにステッカーを貼ることで賞賛を与える。

大学のフットボールを見ると、モチベーションがチームと個人の両方に上手く働くという良い例を見つけられる。多くのチームが、チームの成功と個人の成果の両方を認めるシステムを持っている。長年の間、オハイオ州やミシガン、フロリダなどのチームは、選抜大会や全国大会の有力候補である。チームの成功の目標は、選抜大会に招待されることであり、できれば全国大会で優勝することである。しかし、これらのチームは、チームのゴールに非常に素晴らしい貢献をした個人にヘルメットへ貼るシールを授与する事で功績をたたえるのである。
