The researcher, Edward, identified four zones of personal space that govern American social interactions: Publec space (a bubble of at least 3.7 meters), Social distace (from 1.2-3.7 meters), Personal distance ( 50 cm.-1.5 meters), and Intimate distance, a bubble of 50 cm or less. People from the same cultural background usually understand the rules governing these spaces without needing to be told, and if anyone brfeaks the rules, it can cause great discomfort.
