Computer visionary or ruthless monopolist? Messiah or Antichrist? Bill Gates provokes extreme reactions, of that there is no doubt. In the end, however, the reality is probably less fantastic. He is a very smart man, of immense energy and driven to win. But there is something of the Wizard of Oz about Gates. For all his undoubted intellect he cannot possibly live up to the size of the image he projects to the outside world.
