Some commentators saw great irony, too, in his choice of the traditional paper book format to communicate his vision of the future. The subject matter of his books encompassed the obsolescence of pre-electronic media, yet was delivered by a medium that would have been familiar to William Caxton in the fifteenth century. Although published in multimedia format, in the case of The Road Ahead at least, readers reported that the original CD-ROM version was full of technical glitches - giving new resonance to the phrase 'the medium is the message'.
