Even after he had run the business for years, Gates admitted to being driven by a 'latent fear' that the company could become complacent and allow itself to be overtaken by nimbler competitors. 'Every company is going to have to avoid business as usual. The only big companies that succeed will be those that obsolete their own products before somebody else does', he said.
