The existence of feedback loops at Microsoft also gave rise to some concerns among competitors. One area where confusion existed was with the so-called Chinese Wall between operating system development teams and applications development teams. Owning the industry standard operating system gave Microsoft's application developers a huge advantage over other software companies.
