Over the years, the company developed its own special recruitment techniques and preferences. From the very beginning, Gates recognized that his approach to developing software could best be nurtured among 'very young people, fairly inexperienced'.
So by 1994 when the average age of Microsoft employees had risen to 31, Gates confessed that he would like to see the percentage of employees hired direct from college return to the 80 percent it had been in the early years. 'Young people are more willing to learn, and come up with new ideas', he said.
