アメリカの大手旅行雑誌が発表する“旅行で訪れたい世界の都市ランキング”で、昨年、京都が日本の都市で初めて「1位」に選ばれました。
今後ますます外国人のお客様が増えていくと予想される中、ハイヤードライバー・田中悟社員に外国人のお客様とのエピソードを尋ねました。

It had "the city ranking on a visit to the world tours"published in the American major travel magazine, Kyoto was chosen "the first" in the cities of Japan for the first time last year.
Further foreign visitors are anticipated to increase more and more in the future now, we asked a hired-car driver Satoru Tanaka about episodes with foreign visitors.
●外国人のお客様に最も喜ばれた出来事を教えてください。
京都駅からご乗車されたお客様は、新幹線にバッグを忘れてしまったようで意気消沈していました。すぐにJRに問い合わせてみたところ、忘れたバッグが終点の博多駅で見つかった、とのこと。絶対に無くなっていると思われていたようで、嬉しさと感激のあまり涙を流されていました。
▪What made the foreign customers happy?
This customer left his bag in the Shinkansen from Kyoto, he was disappointed.
I inquired JR immediately and the bag was found at the last stop Hakata station.
He thought it was not going to be found so he was impressed and I saw him crying.
●外国人のお客様が日本にしかないモノや習慣などで驚かれることはありますか？
日本では家に入る時に靴を脱ぐことは皆さんご存知なのですが、お寺などで靴を脱ぐ際にはどこで脱げばよいかわからないことが多いらしく、先導してご案内するようにしています。
また、道端にごみがなく、どこへ行ってもきれい、日本人は車のクラクションをあまり鳴らさず静かであるとお褒めの言葉も頂戴します。
▪ is there anything surprise foreign visitor? Like things you can only find in Japan?
They know we take off shoes before getting inside of houses but they don't know where theu should take their shoes off at temples, so we lead them.
And they are impressed by the fact that there is no rubbish on the street, and also japanese people don't make car horn.
●外国人のお客様の意外な一面があれば教えてください。
意外と和食が苦手な方が多いと感じます。イタリアンなどの洋食や中華など、いろいろな食事処をご紹介できれば喜んでいただけると思います。
●外国人のお客様をエスコートする時に心がけていることを教えてください。
短い滞在時間を有効に使っていただけるように、車での移動の利点を活かしたご案内を常に心がけています。
▪ Is there any unexpected things about foreign visitors?
I think many foreigners don't like Japanese food. They would be happy if we can introduce various restaurant like Italian, western,and Chinese food.
▪ Please tell us something you are being careful about when.you escort foreign customers.

水泳やジョギングなどで身体を動かすようにしています。
また、車ではなく公共交通機関や徒歩で出かけ、車窓とは違う角度から街を観察しています。

◆How do you spend your holidays?
I try to exercise by swimming and jogging.
Also, when going out I use public transportation or go on foot instead of a car, and watch towns from an angle different from a car window.
