For the first time, the diversity of social,
economic, and educational outcomes was recognized, and
we began to see that outcomes for adolescent mothers may
not vary tremendously from outcomes for women of similar
economic backgrounds. The comparisons with the national
sample data did not “control” perfectly for poverty and did
not control for many other factors at all. Additional work is
needed to determine the “true” costs of adolescent childbearing.
当初、社会的・経済的・教育における結果の多様性は認識されており、私たちは若年の母親に待ち受ける結果は似通った経済的背景を持った女性のそれとさほどかわらないかもしれないと思うようになった。国内のサンプルデータを比較しても貧困の完全な「コントロール」にはならず、数多くある他の要因のそれにもまったくならない。若年出産の「本当の」損失に結論をくだすにはさらなる研究が必要である。
