Uber now banned in Delhi, India for “misleading customers”
Uber is now banned in Delhi. Drivers found using the system will be fined, according to reports
US-based taxi-booking app Uber has today been blacklisted by India’s Delhi government for “misleading customers”, according to The Economic Times.

Uberのデリーでの営業が停止された。情報によると、このシステムを利用した運転手は罰金を科されるという。
Economic Timesによると、米国を拠点とするタクシー予約アプリのUberは、本日インドのデリー政府により「誤解を招きやすい顧客体制」を理由にブラックリストに登録された。
This move comes after a woman in New Delhi, the capital, was reported to have been raped by an Uber driver on the job. The driver was said to be a repeat sex offender, who was jailed seven months for a rape charge. He was later acquitted after a private compromise had taken place between him and the victim, reported The Times of India. Additionally, according to The Indian Express, Uber had not conducted a proper background check.
Drivers found to be using Uber in Delhi can be issued a fine. The exact penalty is still unclear.
この措置は、首都ニューデリーである女性がUberのサービスを利用中の運転手にレイプされたとの情報を受け決定された。この運転手は前科持ちの性犯罪者で、レイプの罪で7か月服役していたことがある。The Times of Indiaによると、その後この運転手と被害者は和解に至り彼は無罪となっている。さらに、The indian Expressによると、Uberはきちんとした身辺調査を行っていなかった模様だ。

In conversation with The Economic Times, Satish Mathur, Special Commissioner of Delhi Transport Department, said, “Right now, we have banned Uber as we came to know only after this incident about its services in Delhi. We too had to log on to the Internet to know how the company works.”
Mathur also said that the government will study how other e-hailing apps like Ola and Taxi-For-Sure work before it can come to a sensible decision.

“What happened over the weekend in New Delhi is horrific. Our entire team’s hearts go out to the victim of this despicable crime. We will do everything, I repeat, everything to help bring this perpetrator to justice and to support the victim and her family in her recovery.
We will work with the government to establish clear background checks currently absent in their commercial transportation licensing programs. We will also partner closely with the groups who are leading the way on women’s safety here in New Delhi and around the country and invest in technology advances to help make New Delhi a safer city for women.”
また非常に珍しいことではあるが、UberのCEOを務めるTravis Kalanick氏も声明を発表した。
