その岩盤の大きさが千尋、すなわち千人の人間が手を結んだくらい大きいという例えから名付けられました。
滝の南側の高台が展望台になっているので、車で訪れてその雄大な景色を簡単に楽しむことが出来ます。
展望所は標高270メートル。
滝の反対側には原集落と太平洋が一望できます。

世界遺産の西部林道を歩く
西部林道は屋久島で唯一、海岸線から世界自然遺産に指定されている地域です。

The bedrock was named Chihiro, which means the size of 1,000 people joining their hands, after the size of the rock.
Since the hill at the south side of the waterfall is an observatory, you can enjoy the splendid view easily, visiting by car.
The observatory is on 270 meters above the sea level.
You can overview of the unexplored hamlets and the Pacific on the opposite side of the waterfall.

The West woodland path is the only area in Yakushima that is designated as the World Heritage Site from the seashore.
