桃太郎（ももたろう）は、日本のおとぎ話の一つ。
「桃太郎」が、お婆さんから黍団子（きびだんご）を貰って、イヌ、サル、キジを従えて、鬼ヶ島まで鬼を退治しに行く物語。
岡山市と桃太郎の関係
岡山市南部の吉備地方に伝わる「温羅（うら）伝説」（鬼退治伝説）と「桃太郎の鬼退治伝説」が似ていること、及び、きびだんごの「黍（きび）」と「吉備（きび）」の読みが同じであることなどから、岡山市は「桃太郎」にゆかりの深い街として、桃太郎を前面に押し出した街のPRをしています。

The story of Momotaro is one of the famous Japanese fairy-tales. A boy known as Momotaro received sweet dumplings called "kibidango" from his grandmother and set on a journey to exterminate demons of the Onigashima island accompanied by a dog, monkey and a pheasant.
The relationship between Momotaro and Okayama
Because the legend of Ura from the Kibi district of southern Okayama is similar to the story of Momotaro, and the name of the area - Kibi - sounds the same as the kibi-dango, Okayama is considered to have a deep relationship with the fairy-tale hero and uses the legend as a part of its appeal.
