Sina Founder Wang Zhidong Founded Online Education Platform Xiaoneiwai
The latest project by Wang Zhidong, founder and former CEO of Sina, turns out to be an online education service. It began beta testing in late 2012.
Named Xiaoneiwai (XNW.com), it is a social sharing platform for kids, parents and teachers. Teachers can share educational materials, send group messages to students and parents, organize online activities such as polls, among others.

Sinaの設立者であり前CEOであるWang Zhidongによる最新のプロジェクトはオンライン教育サービスであることが明らかになった。2012年末にベータテストが開始された。
Xiaoneiwai (XNW.com)と名付けられたプラットフォームは、子ども、親、先生のためのソーシャルシェアリングプラットフォームである。先生が教材をシェアしたり、グループメッセージを生徒、親に送信したり、投票などのオンライン活動を行ったりすることが可能である。
It supports sharing images, videos and voice messages, and is available on iOS and Android platforms. Other widely-used communication or social services like Weibo, WeChat, QQ Groups, Feition groups and e-mail services have been integrated into Xiaoneiwai. Students and teachers can also log in with their accounts with the National Public Platform of Educational Resources, a state-run online education platform that was launched at the end of 2012.
このサービスは、画像や動画、ボイスメッセージの共有をサポートし、iOSとAndroidのプラットフォームで利用できる。Weibo、WeChat、QQ Groups、FeitionグループやEメールといった、他の広く使われているコミュニケーションやソーシャルサービスもXiaoneiwaiに統合されている。生徒と教師は、2012年暮れにローンチした国営のオンライン教育プラットフォームのNational Public Platform of Educational Resourcesのアカウントでもログインすることができる。
The idea of Xiaoneiwai sounds a lot like what Ms. Gong Haiyan, founder and former CEO of online dating service Jiayuan, released last week. We expect more such platforms to emerge in China as having all the students, teachers and parents on a single platform is a huge business. Such a platform in online education will be like where Tencent in online communication that users always stick around and monetizing the huge user base is just a matter of time.
Xiaoneiwai のアイディアは、オンラインデートサービスであるJiayuanの創設者兼前CEOであるGong Haiyanが先週リリースしたものによく似ている。学生、先生、親を全てひとつのプラットフォームに集約することは巨大なビジネスであるため、今後、中国でそのようなプラットフォームが増えることが予想される。オンラインコミュニケーションにおけるTencentのように、オンライン教育におけるそのようなプラットフォームも絶えずユーザが集まるようなものになるであろう。巨大なユーザベースをお金に変えるのも時間の問題である。
Wang is one of the iconic figures in China’s Internet industry. He founded his first company developing PC software in early 1990′s. In 1998 the online news portal of his company, born as a sideline project, was merged with US-based Chinese-language news site Sinanet.com. The new company, named Sina, would have Wang as CEO and president, and go public in the U.S. in 2000.
Wangは中国のインターネット業界におけるアイコン的な人物のひとりである。彼は1990年代初頭にPCソフトウェアを開発する最初の会社を立ち上げた。サイドビジネス的なプロジェクトから生まれた彼の会社のオンラインニュースポータルが、アメリカを拠点とする中国語ニュースサイトであるSinanet.comと1998年に合併した。Sinaと名付けられた新会社はWangをCEOとし、2000年にアメリカで株式を公開するはずであった。
But Wang was ousted in 2001. Before Xiaoneiwai, Wang founded Dianji which is focused on collaboration and instant messaging software. It is reported that Lava-Lava, the instant messaging service developed by the company, has some millions of users — In China it’s not a big number at all. Later Dianji launched an online game portal Lava Games.
しかし、2001年にWangは追放されることとなった。Xiaoneiwaiの前に、Wangはコラボとインスタントメッセージソフトに焦点を当てたDianjiを設立した。Dianjiによって開発されたインスタントメッセージサービスであるLava-Lavaは、中国では決して大規模とはいえないが、数百万のユーザを獲得している。その後、DianjiはオンラインゲームポータルであるLava Gamesをローンチした。
