彼はロンドン大学でコミュニケーションの分野を学んだ。マットは表面デザインの学科を卒業。このコースは紙製品、織物製品、セラミックなどへのデザインと印刷技術の鍵となる技術と合理的な使用方法を学ぶ学科だ。

2010年の夏、マットはブルックリンのヴィンテージ物、流行もの、Jay-Zやレニー・クラヴィッツなどのお洒落なセレブなどから依頼を受けて作る壁紙などを制作するフレーバー紙社のインターンシップを終えた。
