まずカナダはアメリカと隣接しており、すでにWal-Martの存在を知っており認知度もあり、また文化的市場を共有しているので比較的簡単に参入し成功した。
一方欧州市場は、明らかにカナダやラテンアメリカとは市場文化が違った。またドイツの２企業を買収したが、インフラ処理・整備に限界があったため結局撤退。もう１つ大きな理由としては、既にドイツ・フランスの一部の企業は既にWal-Martと似たような戦略を持っていたので、ヨーロッパにおける優位性を持つことができなかった。
First, Canada was adjunct to the U.S., knew about Wal-Mart, and shared the same market culture with the U.S., so the entry was relatively easier and successful.
On the other hand, in Europe or Latin America, the market cultures were clearly different. It acquired 2 companies in Germany but withdrew from the market due to the limitation in processing and organizing infrastructure. The other considerable reason was the fact that some companies in Germany or France already had similar strategy to Wal-Mart which made it unable to sustain the superiority in Europe.
