I prefer that walls should only be covered temporarily by illustrations of momentary events which should be cleared off and replaced so that they always express genuine feelings. And this task should be the responsibility of those who have something to offer –without vanity or financial support -here again spontaneously.Examples of this kind of thing appear under our eyes to right and left: we must just recognise them when we see them and draw the lesson. For instance the other day in Bombay, at the Taj Hotel, I poked my nose into the door of the ballroom and saw that the decorations for Friday were under way. Those that I'd seen there a month ago had already been replaced three times.

私は，部屋の壁は，すぐに片付ける事ができ，新しいものととって代わることのできる束の間の出来事を描いた絵で飾られるほうが良いと感じます。

これらの作品は，自発的に虚栄心や財政的な支援なしに，提供する側の人が責任をもって行なうべきでしょう。これらの類いの実例は，公然と至る所に現れているのです。
私達は，それを目にした場合にはそれらを認め，教訓として書き留めるべきでしょう。

例を挙げるとすると，先日のボンベイのタージホテルで舞踏場を覗き込んだ際に，金曜日の予定行事の準備中の装飾が見えました。そこで，私が1ヶ月前に目にした時から，なんと既に3度程模様替えされているのです。
