昨日、千葉県表具組合の現会長である高柳氏が肺癌のため亡くなりました。
急な話ですごく驚いた。
表具を専門でお仕事されていて、表具を愛し、表具を啓蒙することにとても熱心な方だった。
私にとっても表具の試験のことでも色々アドバイスいただいていた方なので本当にショックだ。
彼はとても緻密な方でした。
職人の仕事は経験をもとにした感覚的な作業が多い。しかし、彼は表具関連の書籍を多読していたため表具の説明の仕方もすごく数値的でわかりやすかった。
彼は一昨年、自ら技能グランプリに出場した。

Mr.Takayanagi, the chairman of Chiba prefectural association of paperhanger passed away from lung cancer yesterday. I was so surprised to hear this sudden news.
He was specializing in paperhanging, loved paperhanger, and was dedicated to disseminating paperhanging.
He gave me a lot of advice for my paperhanging test, and I'm deeply shocked.
He was such an elaborate person.

Yesterday, the head of the Chiba prefecture Paperhanger’s Union, Mr. Takayanagi passed away from cancer of the lung. It’s rather sudden and it’s come as a big shock.
Mr. Takayanagi was someone who loved paperhanging, which was his vocation, and worked enthusiastically to raise awareness of the art.
It came as a big shock to myself in particular, since Mr. Takayanagi gave me lots of advice for my paperhanging exam.
He really was a very meticulous person.
For a craftsman, there are great many aesthetic tasks that must be carried out, using one’s experience as a guide. However, Mr. Takayanagi was very well read in literature concerning paperhanging, so his way of explaining methods of working was precise and easy to understand.
Just last year, he entered the craft grand prix.
Mr. Takayanagi was someone who loved paperhanging, which was his vocation, and worked enthusiastically to raise awareness of the art.
It came as a big shock to myself in particular, since Mr. Takayanagi gave me lots of advice for my paperhanging exam.
He really was a very meticulous person.

本来なら出場者は、私たちの年代の３０代から４０代の組合の青年部です。しかし、千葉県では希望者がいなかったため高柳氏自ら出場した
私も力不足で参加できないことは、非常に歯がゆい。高柳氏はいろんな立場もあることと思うがそのプライドをかなぐり捨てて挑戦した。その姿勢は本当に敬服に値する
私が表具でできることは知れていることなのかもしれないが、その情熱だけはもやし続けていきたい

This grad prix is a contest to compete skills organized by Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and craftsmen nationwide from various industries gather biennially.
Normally the participants consist of young group like my age, from 30s to 40s who belong to the association. However, as there was no candidate from Chiba prefecture, Mr. Takayanagi nominated himself to participate.
I feel frustrated at my self not being skillful enough to participate. I guess Mr.Takayanagi was in various position, but he set aside his pride to challenge it. His attitude was indeed worthy of admiration.
What I can do for paperhanging may have certain limitation, but I hope to keep my passion toward it.
