The composition Still Life with Old shoe suggests the deep reaction Joan Miró made against the fascists of the Spanish Civil War. The Still Life with Old shoe is an explicit image, including old shoes, wine bottles, an apple with a fork inserted into, and a loaf of bread cut open of which one end became a skullcap, all of which was set in an unfathomable space. The colors and the dark and dangerous shapes are abominable. This composition is not a special sign but an expression of agony and repugnance on the event which happened to Miró's beloved Spain. He used objects, colors and shapes to denounce corruption, calamity and death.

Joan Miró's oil painting <Still Life with Old Shoe> is an expression of his anguish against the fascists of the Spanish Civil War. It's image is clearly depicted, consisting of an old shoe, a wine bottle, an apple stabbed with a fork and a halve sliced loaf of bread where a picture of a skeleton face is shown on it's open end. All of these objects are scattered in a seemingly arranged manner in an uncertain space where the colours, darkness and distorted objects exudes disgust. Although there is no special symbolism in this piece of work but it's a reflection of Miró's anguish and disgust to what was happening in his beloved country, Spain. The use of the objects, colours and distortions are to denounce the decadents, disasters and death.

The painting <Still Life with Old shoe> shows Joan Miró's strong reaction to the fascists during the Spanish Civil War. We can find clear images in this painting: an old shoe, a wine bottle, a fork sinking into an apple, and a cut loaf of bread, which looks like turning into a skull. Everything is set in a mysterious space, and the colors, the black and the claustrophobic sharps are all disgusting. This painting is not so abstract as other symbolism paintings, while it express Joan Miró's anguish and antipathy to the incident taking place in his beloved Spain. With the objects, colors and sharps, he denounced the degeneration, the disaster and the death.
