強い台風4号は18日午後、那覇市の南の海上を北北東に進んだ。気象庁によると、19日夕から20日朝にかけ、四国や近畿付近に接近、上陸する可能性がある。同庁は、九州から東北の太平洋側を中心に大雨になるとして、土砂災害や暴風、交通への影響に警戒を呼び掛けた。
台風の接近で梅雨前線も北上するため、東日本大震災の被災地でも19日夜からの24時間で200～300ミリの大雨となり、地盤が沈下した地域では家屋の浸水にも注意が必要。今は大潮の時期で、高潮にも警戒が必要という。

A large scale typhoon No4 has proceeded to north north-east direction at the offshore to the south of Naha City Sea. According to the weather bureau, it will possibly reach and land at Shikoku and Kinki district. The bureau forecasts that it will accompany heavy rain down to from Kyushu to Tohoku areas on Pacific side-line, so the bureau warns to prepare for the damage from landslides, strong wind, and traffic accidents.
Due to the typhoon, the rain front goes to the north more rapidly; it may rain heavily in Tohoku district at a level of 200 to 300 mm from the night of the 19th for 24 hours. Serous care should be taken about flood of houses, especially for regions where ground sinking occurred. It is the time of spring tide now, so special precaution should be taken.

The powerful typhoon No.4 was located on the sea south of Naha, advanced to the north-north east on the afternoon of Monday. According to the Meteorological Agency, the typhoon may approach or land near Shikoku or Kinki between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
