This is because, those famous Japanese stores such as SPORTS Authority, Victoria, etc. would demand at least 40% discount or more for the retail price. A sufficient profit won't be generated without setting the standard model price as $360 (vs. the current $270) if we were to go with your current wholesale price of the standard model as $125. If we set the item with the price, the price gets too elastic from the duplicated products, so it won't work.
