Controlling modern society reminds us Panopticon, a type of prison building designed by philosopher Jeremy Bentham in 18th century: Guards tower is situated in the center of the domical prison and they can observe inside from 360-degree view. Interestingly, prisoners themselves cannot see the guards who observe them. It seems they are being watched all the time.
It looks like something unusual is taking place in the system of modern society. Position of watch and be watched could reverse. People observe their government, citizens watch public institutions and patients and their families monitor medical organizations. We can say the advent of sousveillance society.

Today's social regimentation reminds of the Panopticon designed by the 18th century English philosopher Jeremy Bentham. The architecture incorporates a tower at the center of a circular building to allow an observer to observe all prisoners in 360 degrees. Interestingly, the prisoners are not able to see the observer but feel they are being constantly watched.
Today's society is more like the above-mentioned system with a surprising change.
Perhaps, it seems the roles of the observers and the prisoners are being reversed. Now people observe government, citizens keep an eye on public organizations, and patients or their families watch medical institutions. It can be said it's an advent of the reversed-surveillance society.

The regimentation of the contemporary society reminds me of the prison of Panopticon (panoptical monitoring system) that was devised by Bentham, a philosopher in the 18th century. A watchtower is placed in the center of a doom shaped prison, and wardens can watch inside the prison with a 360-degree field vision. Interestingly, prisoners cannot see the wardens who watch them: they have a feeling that they are always watched.
The contemporary society is like the one in which a kind of deformation is occurring for its Panopticon-like system. We have a kind of feeling that, possibly, those who watch and those who are being watched are changing their positions with each other. That is, nation watches the government, citizens their official bodies, and patients and their family watch medical institutions. We may say that the society of reverse monitoring is coming.
