機動戦士ガンダムとは？ ロボットアクション以上に、主人公の社会的成長が物語の主軸に据えられている。また、戦争を舞台としたリアリティに富んだ人間ドラマと、ロボットを「モビルスーツ」と呼ばれる兵器の一種として扱う設定を導入したことで、1980年代初頭から半ばにかけての、後に“リアルロボットもの”と称されることになる一連のロボットアニメ変革の先駆けとなった。

What about Mobile Suit Gundam? The stories' focus is centered on the protagonist's social transition to adulthood more than mecha. Then again, thanks to the war-themed reality full of human dramas and the introduced setting that deals with a certain kind of weapon being robots named "Mobile Suit", from early years until mid 1980's it has become the pioneer of a mecha anime series subsequently taking the name of "realistic robot".
