As it is a human drama where it is full of reality at war and robot is treated as one kind of weapons called "mobile suit", it is a front runner of a series of change of robot animation, which was later called "real robot".

What about Mobile Suit Gundam? The stories' focus is centered on the protagonist's social transition to adulthood more than mecha. Then again, thanks to the war-themed reality full of human dramas and the introduced setting that deals with a certain kind of weapon being robots named "Mobile Suit", from early years until mid 1980's it has become the pioneer of a mecha anime series subsequently taking the name of "realistic robot".
