津村淙庵の機構文「雪のふる道」では、１７８９年の曳山行事を紹介したもので「鉦や鼓、笛、三味線の調子にあわせ、四十もの山車が曳かれていて非常ににぎやかであった」と記載。曳山の高さを町内で競い合い、明治に入り、約２１メートルを超えるものが作られた。しかし、１９００年に電線で制限され、現在の姿になった
