As a manager, whether you believe that it is your responsibility to help these people or not, you are likely to be the one to pull them from the wreckage of their past and set them on a course to success. Having inherited this task, you have only one place to begin: at the beginning.
Spend some time with these employees, and find out what makes them tick. Do some of the other things that we have talked about, including evaluating their talents and their likes and dislikes. Analyze the jobs that you are asking them to perform. Develop plans that will begin to build their confidence.
