喫煙者が直接吸い込む煙を主流煙に対し、火のついた先から立ち上る煙を副流煙といいます。
この副流煙を無関係に吸わされてしまうことを受動喫煙といい、周囲に様々な健康被害を与えています。
また、主流煙は酸性。副流煙はアルカリ性で、目や鼻の粘膜を刺激します。
