In the past, I have shipped a couple of dozens of shipping with a tracking number between Japan and Germany, but luckily not a single time have I had any accidents.
Nonetheless, in the case of the package being lost, stolen or damaged and if you mention $20, that is the only amount of damage you can claim. It is the amount of money which can be repaid to you in case of accident.
