DON'T REINVENT THE WHEEL

Microsoft's rivals claim that the company is not good at innovation and has a poor track record for creating software from scratch. Mike Zisman, vice president, corporate strategy, IBM, and former CEO of Lotus (a long time Microsoft rival) observed, while still at Lotus: 'I don't worry about Microsoft. It never invented anything.' But the bravado masks the real strength of the software wizards of Redmond: they are very, very good at taking ideas and turning them into usable products. (Lotus was eventually acquired by IBM).
