日本で学生服が導入され始めたのは１９世紀後半、明治以降になってから。高等師範学校が洋装の制服を採用したのが始まりだという。「女子高生服」の元になる日本で初めてのセーラー服が取り入れられたのは１９２０年代の平安女学院から。

It was in the late 19th century, since Meiji Period, when student uniforms started to be introduced in Japan. They say that high teacher's schools first adopted Western uniforms. It was Heian Jogakuin in 1920s which used the first sailor suits in Japan that would be the basis of "high-school-girl clothes".
