小説の最後はこれから外の世界に出る事が出来たレッドが、先に脱獄しているアンディに会いに行くシーンで終わっている。
最後は実際の人生と同じように先が見えないけれど、希望に満ちたという雰囲気が伝わり、とても良かったとは思うが、やはりそのシーンの後に実際にアンディに会えた場面がある映画の方が、やはり自由と希望を持つ事は良い事だ。と納得がいって、見ていてとても気持ちが良かった.
