Dear Administrator:

Right now, my account has been suspended.
They say I've been selling counterfeit articles, so I can't sell anything anymore.
I have no idea why they are saying my goods are counterfeit.
I have been selling fine products you can only find in Japan for a long time.
There is no mistaking that the products I'm selling are genuine articles.
I also have absolutely no intention to sell fake goods.
I have had a lot of fun encountering and selling my goods through this website.
I wish to continue using this website for a long time.
I also wish to sell my products as soon as possible.
Can you tell me when I'll be able to do that?

I thank you for taking the time to read this message.
I will patiently wait for your reply.

Thank you for the review, but I don't believe "サイトと出会い" means what you think it means http://goo.gl/QhLgk6

I'm sorry I was only proofreading your translation and didn't look at the original. Thank you for the link!
However, encounter is still not correct. In that case, I think "I have had a lot of fun connecting with the site and using it to sell my goods" would be a more accurate translation!

That "encountering" refers to "encountering this website," which I still believe is a perfectly valid translation. And also, if I can be quite frank, I don't think the other corrections were necessary.

Using the word "encountering" in regards to a website isn't something you would normally say. Translations are less about the direct word to word translation and more about the nuance and meaning of the text as a whole. Do you live in Japan? If so I recommend you to go to the movie theater and watch a foreign film. (in which they will include Japanese translations at the bottom) It is very helpful in distinguishing this!
As for the other corrections, "has been" is grammatically incorrect if used with "right now", and the 2 at the end are to make it sound more natural rather than directly translated. But we can agree to disagree! :)

Yes, I'm fully aware of the difference between direct and loose translations and I'm also aware of the oftentimes god-awful Japanese subtitles that even caused director Peter Jackson to take action. As for that grammar rule regarding the temporal usage of "has been," I'll just refer you to 2 Timothy 1:10-12 plus other verses. If you want to sound more natural then "find" might work better than what you have suggested, even though I still think "encounter" is perfectly fine. In my view, corrections should only be reserved for mistakes that are inarguable rather than for things that can be up for debate.

ashleywest ashleywest 2014/06/07 11:15:33

That is just a rare example as well as a personal opinion of a director unhappy with how his characters and themes were represented.
I will not reference a collection of fictional stories written thousands of years ago for modern grammar usage. However I have looked this up and cannot find a single source supporting you.
If it were my translation, I would probably use "come across" rather than find. However "find" would work as well.
In my opinion, these are mistakes and are not debatable. However I see you are stubborn and believe your opinion is above all others so there is no use arguing with you.
Regardless I think it was a good translation so keep up the good work!
