One study of semiurban adolescent mothers
found that 44% reported a history of physical abuse and
13% reported a history of childhood neglect. The relationship
between intimate partner violence and rapid repeat
pregnancy in teens has been demonstrated in several
studies.Clearly, adolescent parenthood is often
“caused” by limited life options, the experience of poverty,
poor educational aspirations, and violence.
