五重塔の内部は、相輪（そうりん）という塔の先端部を支持する「心柱」だけが一本でつながっています。

つまり真ん中は、吹抜けの中空構造になっていて、心柱は、塔体から構造的に独立しているのです。

五重塔が倒れない理由として一説には、心柱が振子となって揺れを押さえる効果があると考えられています。

そこで、スカイツリーの内部も吹き抜けにして、そこに心柱を設置することになりました。

In other words, there is no ceiling where it is structured hollow, and the central pillar is independent of the pagoda in structure.

One of the reasons that Gojunoto never collapses is that the central pillar plays a role of pendulum, and it is effective to stop swinging.

Therefore, it was decided that inside of the Sky Tree is hollow and the central pillar is set there.
