屋久島の深部は樹齢千年を超えるとされる屋久杉の宝庫。
こちらは翁杉。
上の方はすでに枯れていて、着生樹が多く見られる。
古い巨木を苗床に新しい木が育つ様子は屋久杉の特徴をよく表しています。
屋久杉の古木らしい風格にはまさに翁の名がふさわしいですね。
