厚木市は大山街道沿いにある宿場町でしたが、今では東京郊外の住宅地として賑わっています。その厚木市が東町地区に江戸の情緒を感じさせる街並を復活させて小江戸としての厚木を目指す取り組みを行っています。

Atsugi city used to be a relay station created along the mountainous main roads, but now is a prospering housing district located in the suburbs of Tokyo. The city tries to restore the old Edo atmosphere in the Higashimachi district to create a "Small Edo" part of the city.
