江戸時代の日本を舞台としているものの、チャンプルーの名前通り、随所に現代文化がミックスされた独特の世界観が特徴。登場人物はカタカナ語（「バイト」、「モデル」など）や若者言葉（「マジ」、「たりぃ」など）を話し、金髪にピアスの若者やヒューマンビートボクサーが登場するなど、時代考証を無視した時代劇が展開されている。

Even though the story takes place in Japan in the Edo period, as the title Chanpuru indicates, it mixes elements from modern culture, creating its unique world view. The characters use loan words (part-time jobs, model etc.) and youth slag (seriously? Isn't that so?), telling an anachronistic samurai drama with bleached blond young men with pierced ears and human beat boxers.
