自分の強みをしっかりと認識するためには、必要な技能や知識の獲得に取り組まなければならない。また悪習、すなわち自分の有用性や仕事ぶりを阻む行為、もしくはできない行為を改めることも同様に不可欠である。このような習慣はフィードバックを行えばすぐにわかることである。例えばある立案者は、自分の考案した素晴らしい計画が失敗に終わるのを目にすることがあるかもしれないが、それはその計画を最後までやり抜かないからである。大変大勢の頭脳明晰な人がそうであるように、彼も発想で山が動くと思い込んでいるのだ。
