　工業製品の意匠性の重要度は増加している．デザインに用いられる曲面はスタイルの良さと品質の高さの両方が要求される．これらを満たすデザインは試行錯誤を経てデザイナにより生成される．だが，これは非効率である．また，これはデザイナ各々の感覚への依存度が高い．そこで，曲面形状を幾何学的に保持し，「美しさ」を定量評価できるようになればデザイナを支援することができる．なぜなら，客観的な評価によりデザインの効率が上がるし，評価値はデザイナのコミュニケーションツールにもなるからだ．

The design of the product is getting much more significant now. The curve of the product requires stylishness and quality of the product. This sort of design was created by designers with their trial and error. But this is not the effective way to produce such design. This method is also having problem that is relying too much of each designer's taste. If we can establish the tool to evaluate "beauty" by recording the curved surface shape geometrically, it will help out designers. It will improve efficiency of producing design by giving them an objective evaluation. Evaluation value will also help communicate with each designer.
