ネオ日本画は現代美術家が2001年に考案した美術ジャンルの概念。岩絵具、膠、墨などを使用した絵画を日本画というが、現代の日本画とされている画材だけで延命しているだけのジャンルとは違い、輪郭線などの線描表現や、装飾性、象徴性、遊戯性といった日本美術の要素をアクリル絵具等の新素材を用いて描くジャンル。かつ、日本美術の古典的なエッセンスを引用して現代を活写するもの。日本画というジャンルができる以前の日本絵画の各流派の表現スタイルを現代的に試みた様式。浮世絵も「ネオ日本画」に含まれる

Neo Japanese painting concept art was a genre invented in 2001 by contemporary artists.
