現在欧米諸国ではドナー細胞の不足から重度の１型糖尿病患者のみでの臨床がなされておりますが、その臨床成果として80％以上のレシピエントで移植後１年以内にインスリン離脱した，と良好な成績が報告された。しかし長期成績をみてみると，移植後の経過とともにグラフト機能が徐々に低下し，移植後５年インスリン離脱を維持できるのは20％に満たないことが明らかになってきている現状の中で、中国では2型の糖尿病患者にこの治療を試したところ、5年後のインスリン離脱は90%を超える結果を出しました。

Now, only severe type 1 diabetes patients are targeted for clinical testing at western countries because of lack of donor cells, but there is a favorable report as a result; more than 80% recipients could get rid of insulin within one year. But looking at long-term results, we found the present condition that the more time goes after the surgery, the more graft function is decreased, and only 20% of patients can keep insulin withdrawal after 5 years of surgery. Under this circumstances, people tried same treatment to type II diabetic patients and insulin withdrawal rate after 5 years became more than 90%.
