Call Me Maybe: Chinese E-Commerce Site Debuts a Group Messaging App

China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba has always had a chat app – but this week it has been completely revamped, metamorphosing from a fusty old IM-style app (called AliWangWang) to the newly rolled out, mobile-oriented group messaging app that’s now called WangXin. The rebranded app – used by lots of sellers on Alibaba’s amateur shopkeeper marketplace, Taobao – is now more like Whatsapp, or the Chinese-made Weixin, and can send snippets of voice messages too.

中国の電子商取引大手アリババはこれまでチャット用アプリをリリースしていました。しかし今週、古いインスタントメッセージスタイルアプリをやめ、完全に新しいWangXinとよばれるモバイル指向のグループメッセージアプリをリリースしました。Taobaoのようなアリババの一般向け販売サイトで多くの売り手が利用していたような今回リニューアルしたアプリは、Whatsappや中国製のWeixin、短い音声を送信できるようなアプリと似たようなものとなっています。
