Tencent’s OCR App Gets a Fresh Pair of Eyes, Now More Like Google Goggles

Last September I reviewed a new translation app from China’s Tencent (HKG:0700) that uses OCR technology to read words, via the phone’s camera, and automagically translate them. Now the app, Soso Huiyan, has been updated to version 2.0 on the iPhone [1] and has evolved to become more like Google Goggles, able to recognise logos, book covers, movie posters (and lots more) and give you search results from that image.

TencentのOCRアプリケーションが「新しい目」が付いた、今はGoogle Gogglesに似てきた

去年の9月に中国のTencent (HKG:0700)の新しい翻訳アプリをレビューした。このアプリはOCRの技術を使って携帯カメラから字を読み取り、自動的に翻訳するものだ。現在、このアプリ、Soso HuiyanはiPhone用のバージョン2.0がアップデートされ、Google Gogglesに似た内容に進化した。ロゴや、本の表紙、映画のポスター( さまざまなもの) が認識でき、画像からサーチできる。
