Ingmar Bergman’s very fine, remarkable Swedish motion picture, Wild strawberries, provides a beautiful example of the constructive aspects of the life review. Envisioning and dreaming of his past and his death, the protagonist- physician realizes the nonaffectionate and withholding qualities of his life; as the feeling of love reenters his life, the doctor changes even as death hovers upon him.
Although it is not possible at present to describe in detail either the life review or the possibilities for reintegration which are suggested, it seems likely that in the majority of the elderly a substantial reorganization of the personality does occur.
