今日、本を読む余裕があるのはぜいたくのように思われる。というのも、生活が忙しくなるにつれて、だんだん本を読む時間が少なくなってきているからである。読書はいまや娯楽というよりも、我々が子供に伝えなければならない文化遺産の一部と考えている人も少なくない。私自身は、本なしではやって行けないたちの人間なので、読書の喜びをより多くの人間に伝えるためならどんな努力でもするつもりだ。

Nowadays, having the time for reading books is thought to be a luxury. This means that since life got busier, people have less and less time to read books. A lot of people think that reading is now not as much a pleasure as a means of passing cultural heritage to our children. Myself, I'm a person who can't live without books, so I have the intention to exert any effort needed to convey the joy of reading to more and more people.
