The WeChat branding will come in v4.0 of the app which is due in the coming weeks. Already, Tencent has snagged the wechat.me URL but has not yet made the name changes evident on the site. The reasoning perhaps is that ‘Weixin’ is a puzzle to pronounce to non-Chinese speakers, especially that ‘x’ which would probably be mis-pronounced as ‘z’ or ‘s’ by speakers of most other languages (actually it’s fairly close to the English ‘sh’ phonic sound).

WeChatブランドとしてはバージョン4.0のアプリが今後数週間の内に登場予定である。すでにTencentはwechat.meというURLを獲得はしているものの、サイト上ではまだ名称変更が実施されていないのが見て取れる。その理由は恐らく、非中国語圏の人々にWeixinを発音させるのが困難であるからだろう。特に「x」は中国語以外のほとんどの言語圏の人々から「z」や「s」と誤って発音される恐れがある（実際は英語の「sh」の発音に近い）。
