There was a positive relationship between generativity and feeling supported and loved by their partners and a negative relationship between generativity and expressions of ambivalence about their marriage or partners. Generativity was also positively correlated with happiness about grandmotherhood and self-growth through motherhood. There was also a trend toward a relationship between generativity and descriptions of positive characteristics in children. Authoritarianism was uncorrelated with any of the content-coding categories for marriage. However, authoritarianism was negatively related to self-growth through　motherhood and to the description of children in positive terms.
